      The results are in, and yes, we can confirm that the Cadillac Lyriq V<\/u> is the quickest launching factory Cadillac of all time, which the brand had been trumpeting louder than a Wynton Marsalis solo since the electric SUV<\/u>\u2019s official launch earlier this year. Our track tested number of 3.3 seconds to 60 mph is dead on what Cadillac estimated for its V-ified version of the Lyriq.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

      \n

      It\u2019s important to note, however, that beyond all the chassis stiffening and adaptive damping and the Velocity Max and Competition modes, this is still an SUV that could star in a reality show called My 6,059-Pound Life<\/em>. That\u2019s not to say we aren\u2019t duly impressed with what Cadillac has accomplished here; far from it. But weight and physics remain undefeated.<\/p>\n

      <\/h2>\n

      On the Straight and Speedy<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      Launching three tons\u2019 worth of Lyriq V is easy. First, press down hard on the brake and accelerator. It will prompt you to \u201cFLOOR IT\u201d until you get the setup right, then lift off the brake and proceed with a record-breaking launch. Before all that, we engaged Velocity Max via the steering wheel button to unlock its full 615 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque, and Competitive mode, which, among other neat tricks, loosens the stability control system and shoves more torque delivery to the rear.<\/p>\n

      The results were impressive, although we were looking for a little more drama, more violence. But at least we barreled down the dragstrip in style. Did we mention it\u2019s the quickest Cadillac ever to 60 mph? Interestingly though, it\u2019s not quicker through the quarter mile than the mechanically similar Chevrolet Blazer SS EV we tested<\/u>, which hit the mark in 11.8 seconds at 117.5 mph, two ticks quicker than the Lyriq V\u2019s 12.0 at 113.1 mph (it also must be noted that several CT5-V Blackwings have trapped in the low-11s at 125 mph or better).<\/p>\n

      Another performance-themed electric SUV we put through its paces in the Cadillac\u2019s price and size ballpark is the not-long-for-this-world Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV<\/u>, which nipped the Lyriq V to 60 mph (3.1 seconds) and borderline spanked it in the quarter mile at 11.5 seconds at 117.0 mph.<\/p>\n

      Hot Stops and Dynamic Dancing<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      It\u2019s quick, to be sure, but how did it go when it came time to haul down those three tons in a hurry? Things got heated. After one 100\u20130-mph braking run and four 60\u20130 stops, the Lyriq V\u2019s brakes said no mas,<\/em> and it limited itself to 71 mph to help cool them down. It employs six-piston Brembo calipers that bite into 15.4-inch discs at the front, and a single-piston caliper and 13.6-inch disc at each rear wheel. Again, physics are real (an upgrade at the rear maybe wouldn\u2019t be the worst idea).<\/p>\n

      It is worth mentioning that not many people in the real world are going to be hammering on the binders like we do. The good news is our best stop came in at a more than solid 111 feet, splitting the difference between the EQE AMG (109 feet) and the Blazer SS (114 feet), both of which weighed in less than the Lyriq V.<\/p>\n

      Through the handling crucible that is our figure-eight test and out on the skidpad, the Lyriq V wasn\u2019t setting any records, and the brakes didn\u2019t do it any favors here, either, as they overheated again during the tail end of our hot laps. We were able to record some acceptable numbers (25.2 seconds at 0.79 g through the figure eight and 0.87 g around the skidpad), with it edging the Blazer SS on the skidpad and the Chevy returning the favor in the figure eight. The Benz, however, handily outpaced both of the General Motors EVs. <\/p>\n

      V EV Doing EV Things<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      All in all, for a hefty all-electric EV like this version of the Lyriq, it largely delivers the amount of power and performance you\u2019d expect from a Cadillac with V badges subtly applied in several spots inside and out. Does that mean it also excels at doing EV things like charging quickly and pushing the range limits? Sort of. <\/p>\n

      For an EV focused on getting places quickly, the Lyriq V\u2019s EPA-rated range of 285 miles is borderline impressive, and after running it through our MotorTrend<\/em> Road-Trip Range test, which runs an EV at a steady 70 mph from 100 to 5 percent charge, we recorded 255 miles of range; again, not bad for the type of vehicle. One thing to keep in mind, if you\u2019re Velocity Max\u2013ing all over the place, expect your range to go way down. <\/p>\n

      When it comes to its fast-charging capabilities, that\u2019s where the Lyriq V (and the rest of the present General Motors lineup of EVs for that matter) isn\u2019t exactly as quick as its 0\u201360 time. It can accept 81 miles\u2019 worth of electrons into its 102-kWh battery pack in 15 minutes, which is fine if you need to just add some range and go. But if you\u2019re charging from say, 5 to 80 percent like we did, it can take upwards of an hour. Not fast. On the plus side, its standard 19.2-kilowatt charging module could make things quicker for folks using Level 2 home-style charging. <\/p>\n

      Doing Things in the Day to Day<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      When you have the Lyriq V all charged up and ready to go and you hop in, you\u2019ll find a cabin trimmed with a mix of Cadillac\u2019s modern luxury aesthetic and V-inspired sport touches. Highlights include a 33-inch wraparound digital screen and just enough carbon, leather, wood, and other accents to lend a sense of occasion without feeling too garish. As the top-level Lyriq, the V also comes with some of the best tech Cadillac has to offer standard, including an augmented reality head-up display and three years of Super Cruise. <\/p>\n

      It\u2019s just as classy on the outside, with its black roof, fabulous-looking 22-inch wheels, and the optional carbon-fiber trim package ($5,700) all playing a role in amping up what was already a stylish SUV and making it that much more attractive and subtly aggressive. <\/p>\n

      As GM often does with its SUVs, the Lyriq trends on the XL side of its segment, with lots of room front and rear and a copious amount of cargo capacity. It\u2019s big, wide, and as we\u2019ve beaten into ground by now, heavy, and it feels like it whether you\u2019re running around surface streets or mashing the accelerator to get up to freeway speeds. <\/p>\n

      While you\u2019re at higher V-locities, the cabin isolation is as good or better than any EV in its class. Despite its specially tuned continuously adaptative damper setup, even in its base Touring mode setup, the Lyriq V doesn\u2019t coddle you in comfort over rough pavement. Those 22-inch wheels likely don\u2019t help matters in that respect, either, but it\u2019s sort of the cost of doing V business. <\/p>\n

      The brake pedal, while a bit long in travel, will stop you plenty fast in daily traffic, and while we wouldn\u2019t exactly call the steering feel super direct, it does have a quicker ratio than garden-variety Lyriqs, which helps. The helm itself is on the heavy side when you turn it, which we\u2019d rather have in a high-powered SUV than the other way around. You want one-pedal driving? Flip the regen on demand paddle, and you\u2019ll be halting in haltingly rapid fashion. <\/p>\n

      What Will This V Cost Me?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      The 2026 Cadillac Lyriq V Premium we tested started at $85,290. Add in $7,620 worth of options, with the priciest being the carbon fiber exterior trim and Radiant Red Tintcoat paint, and the all-in price maxed at $92,910. <\/p>\n

      Sure, you could get yourself into a Blazer SS for quite a bit less and get largely the same performance. Or you could go one size smaller and pick up the just launched, 515-hp Optiq V.<\/u> And yes, it\u2019s saddled with some of the typical downsides of present-day electric vehicles. But to us, when it comes to aspirational luxury SUVs\u2014EV or otherwise\u2014with a decidedly sporty flair, Cadillac has nailed the brief with the Lyriq V. And even better, you get some acceleration bragging rights to go with it! <\/p>\n
